November in Greenwich CT is when the leaves come down and the fires go on.
The first week usually still has color here on the shoreline. Then the trees go bare, and you can finally see things. The water from the Post Road. The stone walls in the backcountry. Houses you forgot were there.
And November isn’t the lull it used to be. It gets busier here every year. It’s always a lovely cap to fall in Greenwich CT.

Weather in November in Greenwich CT
Flannel weather. That’s the short version.
Days sit around the low 50s°F (about 11°C). Nights drop into the high 30s°F (about 3°C). Expect a few rainy days, and the odd morning in the 30s that tells you winter is coming.
Snow is rare this early on the coast. A dusting, if anything.
The clocks go back on November 1, so the sun sets around 4:50 at the start of the month and closer to 4:30 by the end. Plan your walks for the afternoon and your dinners for the dark.
I call it writer’s weather. The kind that makes writing easy, because what else are you going to do?
Greenwich Point Is Open to Everyone From November 1
This is a big one.
From May through October, you need a resident pass to get into Greenwich Point Park. From November 1 through April 30, the town charges no fee to enter. So anyone can walk the shoreline.
I’m back to my walks there every November. The sun sets early, but it’s still prime time for bracing sea air and some very dramatic shoreline views. The trees by the water often peak later than the rest of town, too.
Thanksgiving in Greenwich
Thanksgiving week is the busiest week of our November.
Surprising, I know.
We host two kinds of guests that week:
- People visiting family and friends nearby
- And people who come for a getaway over the long weekend
Either way, it books up early.
A few things worth knowing for the holiday:
- The Stamford parade is on Sunday, November 22, 2026, from noon to 2 PM. It’s the Sunday before Thanksgiving, not Thanksgiving Day. Not as big as New York City’s, but it doesn’t have the crowds either. The balloon inflation party is the day before, Saturday, November 21, from 3 to 6 PM at Hoyt and Summer Streets.
- The Harbor Point Turkey Trot is on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26. A free, untimed 5K at Harbor Point Square in Stamford. Bring a can for the food pantry. [CHECK start time on the organizer’s site closer to the date. Past years started around 8 AM.]
- Book dinner early. Greenwich fills up fast that week. Here’s where I’d eat in downtown Greenwich.
- The Bruce Museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day.

The Start of the Holiday Season
Reindeer Festival & Santa’s Workshop
Friday, November 27 to Thursday, December 24, 2026, at Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses.
It opens the day after Thanksgiving. Live reindeer, photos with Santa, and letters to the North Pole. No tickets or reservations needed. Closed Sundays.
It’s Greenwich’s last hurrah before winter reverts us all to introversion. And an easy way to feel like you’re in one of those Hallmark movies.

The Woman’s Club Holiday Boutique
Right across Maple Avenue from us. Local vendors, one-of-a-kind gifts, and the proceeds go to local charities. It usually runs on a Friday and Saturday in mid-November.
Rainy Days
The Bruce Museum
Our hometown museum of art and science, in Bruce Park. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 5 PM. Last entry 4:30.
Admission is free on Tuesdays. Other days, it’s $20 for adults. Closed Mondays, and closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Antique shops
November is when I start hunting again. Partly for something to do on crummy days. Mostly for the next round of guest-room updates.
Exploring antique shops is one of my favorite parts of the job. There’s something deeply satisfying about finding diamonds in the rough of an antiquer’s hoard.

Storytimes, talks and holiday events all month. Greenwich Library guide.
Outdoors in November
Once the leaves drop, the woods open up. Bundle up and go.
- Babcock Preserve: over 300 acres of trails and woodland. A good forest ramble.
- Montgomery Pinetum: 102 acres of unusual trees and easy paths. Good for a slow walk.
- Greenwich Audubon Center: 285 acres of trails and birdwatching.
- Dorothy Hamill Rink: the town rink runs mid-September to mid-March, so you can skate in November. Check the public skate schedule before you go.
Where to Eat in November
Shopping on an empty stomach is a rookie mistake. A few I’d send you to downtown:
- Le Penguin, 61 Lewis St. A French bistro. Good for a cozy meal.
- The Cottage, 49 Greenwich Ave. Contemporary American. Upscale, but friendly.
- MIKU, 68 Greenwich Ave. Sushi, some of the fish flown in from Tokyo. Plenty of vegan and gluten-free options.
- Elm Street Oyster House, 11 W Elm St. Seafood. Get the oysters.
- Pizza Post, 522 E Putnam Ave. Family-run pizza. Casual.

Getting Around Greenwich
From New York City, take Metro-North to Greenwich, or drive up I-95. Once you’re here, downtown is easy on foot. For the Point and the backcountry, you’ll want a car or a rideshare.
