How to Pick the Perfect Christmas Tree at one of the best Connecticut Christmas tree farms

When it comes to picking out your perfect Christmas tree, there are several factors to consider. Here’s a quick breakdown of some things to look out for when you’re at the farm during Christmas tree season:

1. Type

There are many types of Christmas trees to choose from, including:

  • Fraser Fir
  • Balsam Fir
  • Blue Spruce
  • White Pine
  • etc.

Each type has its own unique characteristics, such as needle retention, smell, and color hue. The Fraser Fir, for example, is known for its optimal needle retention and rich pine smell.

2. Appearance

When looking for a perfect tree, keep an eye out for the ones with shiny needles. This often indicates a tree is healthy and has been getting a lot of water. You also want to pick a tree that has a rich pine scent. You’ll want to avoid trees that have piles of needs underneath it with bare spots on branches. You’ll also want to avoid darker-colored needles, dry branches, and any musty smells. Most Christmas tree farms in CT cover this for you, and for sure the ones on this list.

3. Size

When it comes to size, the standard tree height for most homes is between 6 and 7 feet tall. But if you have a foyer with high ceilings, you may want to get a latter and measure how high you want your tree to be.

It’s best not to eyeball what you need; otherwise, you may not get the tree of your dreams. So, bring a tape measure and a step ladder if you need to the farm to find your perfect fit.

And don’t forget that tree stands add a bit of height!

4. Price

The price of Christmas trees can vary depending on the type and size of the tree. Generally speaking, you can find a good size tree for around $75, but again, price depends on the specifics. And, like the rest of Connecticut, a tree from Christmas farms in CT are quality, with the price to match.
