Tibbetts Brook Park is also home to the New York Magpies, making it a popular destination for football fans.

 

Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site

In Yonkers, New York, the Philipse Manor Hall is a State Historic Center and House Museum. It is one of the oldest structures in the United States and the oldest in Westchester County. Dutch immigrant Frederick Philipse first built it around 1682. The house is filled with architectural treasures, such as a Rococo-style paper Mache and plaster ceiling from the 1750s. It has been a museum of art and history since 1911, and it houses the impressive Cochrane Collection of American Portraiture. On a self-guided tour, visitors can explore the Manor House at their own pace. The tour provides a taste of old town Yonkers as well as an opportunity to learn about the Philipse family’s history.

 

Sherwood House Museum

The Sherwood House Museum, owned and maintained by the Yonkers Historical Society, was built around 1740 and is one of the few remaining examples of a pre-Revolutionary War farmhouse. The house was originally a single-story structure, but extensive additions, including a second floor and a red barn, were completed in 1850. In 1902, electricity was installed, along with a lean-to bathroom at the back of the house. Sherwood House is open to the public on Sundays during the spring and summer, but if you visit outside of these hours, you can learn about this historic house by visiting the Historical Society offices on Thursdays at the Yonkers Public Library.

 

Empire City Casino
