Likewise, apples are best picked from mid-September to early November, which is why they’re also associated with October and holidays. You can’t not bring an apple or pumpkin pie to Thanksgiving in Connecticut!

Jones Family Farm

Shelton, CT

Jones Family Farm is awesome because it’s a three-in-one: a farm, winery, and kitchen!

While some of its namesakes are at different locations, for apple and pumpkin picking, you’ll want to head over to Pumpkinseed Hill Farm. Throughout October, you can grab pumpkins, gourds, squash, and other foods at the farm to make your own pies, baked goods, drinks, and more. 

There are even family-friendly farmyard animals, so your little ones can check out some of the livestock living on the land! To tire them out even more, Jones Hill also has a hand-made playground that’s a blast for the kids, and when you need a break from picking, you can grab some delicious cider and homemade cookies.

Blue Jay Orchards

Bethel, CT

If you’re a fan of apple cider donuts, look no further—Blue Jay Orchards has you covered. These mouth-wateringly scrumptious baked goods will make you want seconds, if not thirds. 

Once you’ve had your share, you can wash it down with their seasonal apple cider, and you can take home some freshly baked cookies and homemade pies. 

When you’re ready to start picking pumpkins, grab a wheelbarrow and get to finding the perfect ones for your needs!

Plasko’s Farm

Trumbull, CT

As a first generational family-owned farm, the land was established by Czechoslovakian immigrants in 1925. Today, it’s a staple in the state for its incredible pickings and beloved 4.5-acre corn maze!

While this place doesn’t allow you to pick your own pumpkins from the fields, they do set out their full selection for you to choose from! 

With all the time you saved, you can enjoy some apple cider donuts and check out their antique tractors. Plasko’s Farm also has a selection of mums you can bring home to decorate your front porch!

Castle Hill Farm

Newtown, CT

Castle Hill Farm really has everything you need, from pumpkin picking to a 7-acre corn maze. It’s also an exciting spot for kids with the chance to pet cows and goats—and they can even ride a pony!

On weekends, you can hop on one of the hayrides to scoot around the farm to see everything it has to offer. Be sure to check out their calendar, too, for live music events.

One of the highlights is also the farm stand where you can shop for fresh eggs and produce. Just be sure to bring cash or a check, as that’s all they accept.

Warrup’s Farm

Redding, CT

Warrup’s Farm is a classic for picking pumpkins right off the vine and taking a walk along the lush lands. 

Just like many of the other options here, they serve up some great apple cider when you need to quench your thirst. To rest your legs, hop on the hayride to take in the farm scents and enjoy the scenery. 

Be sure to grab their homemade maple syrup on your way out for some of the best breakfast of your life!

Silverman’s Farm

Easton, CT

Picture this: a cup of apple cider, live music, and the smell of fall leaves in the air? Well, you get to enjoy all this at Silverman’s Farm! 

Your kiddos can hang out with some barnyard animals while you enjoy a drink. For a snack, you can grab a cider donut, but if you’re looking more for a meal, there are food trucks available!  Basically, you can spend the whole day there and have all you need. 

After apple or pumpkin picking, you can hop on the hayride for a break, and once you have your bounty, you can participate in the pumpkin challenge, where you can guess the weight of a pumpkin. If you’re within two ounces, you can bring it home for free!

Sam Bridge Nurseries

Greenwich, CT

Sam Bridges Nursery has one of the best hayrides in the area—and it’s free! 

You can hop on for a ride to pick your perfect pumpkin, and as you’re riding, they share fun facts about pop culture, all while using pumpkins! 

Be sure to look at their calendar for pumpkin painting events and scarecrow-building activities.

Once you’re done, head over to Stanton House Inn to rest for the evening in one of the coziest B&Bs in the state.
