Babcock Preserve History

Babcock Preserve is a significant part of Greenwich’s rich history. In 1972, Greenwich acquired 292 acres of the Babcock family’s property. The town went to work protecting the wildlife and the water supply in this sensitive watershed area. Horseback riding trails were added and specific activities, like hiking and nature study, kept the area natural and undisturbed. The town also developed a picnic area, improved sections of the trails with boardwalks, and increased the diversity of habitats. Today, Babcock Preserve offers an unparalleled experience amid Greenwich’s natural beauty.
