The Sackett Suite takes up two rooms at the top of the house: a king bedroom with an in-room whirlpool tub, and a separate sitting room with its own lounge chairs, dining table, and desk.

Tucked into the top floor, it is one of the quietest king bedroom suites in CT we have, and worth every stair.

It feels more like a small apartment at the top of an old house than a standard hotel room, with enough space to settle in for a few days.

The room named for the Sackett family

In 1717, the Reverend Richard Sackett received a land grant while serving as pastor of Second Congregational Church, a few hundred feet down the street. His family held the land for 150 years. In the early 1840s, John Sackett built the house that became the oldest part of Stanton House Inn.

Room 30 carries their name. It is the only room in the house that can say that.

What changed in our latest update

We first updated this room in 2023, the first of a lot of rooms we did that year. Looking back, we rushed it. It always had its fans, but I was never proud of it.

So I was glad when we finally came back to it.

We didn’t gut it. We added to it. Warmer walls. Better art. More books. More places to sit. The two TVs now sit above antique washstands we repurposed as consoles, which fit the room much better than standard TV stands ever could.

It’s a fuller, more lived-in room now. A better one.

Two rooms, one quiet floor

Glass French doors separate the bedroom from the sitting room, so each side gets real separation. One person can read or nap while the other watches a movie on the second TV.

The sitting room has two lounge chairs, a bistro dining table, an antique desk, a mini-fridge, and a microwave. Guests use it for breakfast, work, reading, or spreading out for a while. It is a second room, not a space you pass through on the way to bed.

The whirlpool, and what was here before

The whirlpool tub for two faces the king bed. In fall and winter, with the sloped ceilings and warmer walls, it makes this one of the coziest rooms in the house.

One of my favorite details is what used to be here. The third floor was once five small servant rooms and a single shared bath. My parents collapsed all of it into two suites, each with its own bathroom. The whirlpool now sits in the exact footprint of that old shared bath. It is one of those odd layers of the house you would never know without asking.

Good to know before you book

• Third floor, no elevator. The stairs are real. If that’s a concern, our ground-floor rooms skip the climb.
• The whirlpool is in the bedroom, facing the king bed.
• This room sleeps two. There is no pullout.
• Windows face southwest, over the pool and toward the church steeple down the street.

If the Sackett Suite is booked

If Room 30 is taken, two rooms come closest, depending on what you’re after.

For similar space without the third-floor climb, the Pomeroy Suite (Room 25) is a king suite with a divided bath and wet bar on the second floor.

For a smaller, more tucked-away room that shares Room 30’s history, the Governess’s Room (Room 32) came out of the same servant-floor conversion. It is a different room with a different feel: quieter, more modest.
