Top Floor King with a View: Room 32
A quiet king room at the top of the house
Room 32 sits at the top of the house, facing the back garden.
It has a brass king bed under sloped ceilings, two leather armchairs, a green ottoman, an antique secretary desk, and a dormer window that looks down onto the vine-covered ruins in the garden below.
The quiet up here is the kind you have to climb to find.
Third (our top) floor. No elevator. Worth it.
Best for: couples on quiet escapes, solo travelers, readers, writers, and anyone who wants to disappear for a few days.

About Room 32
The third floor used to be five small servant rooms and one shared bath.
My parents changed that.
They opened the floor into two larger rooms, each with a very different personality. The Sackett Suite, next door, became the larger suite facing the pool and church steeple. Room 32 became the quieter one: tucked into the northwest corner, facing the back garden.
It’s a single king room, but it doesn’t feel like a box. There’s a real sitting area at the foot of the bed:
- Two leather armchairs
- A green leather ottoman
- A small travertine table
- A view worth doing absolutely nothing in front of
The antique secretary desk came up from Room 16 during the 2026 refresh. That’s how an old house furnishes itself. Things drift to where they belong.
The dresser has been here longer than any of us can remember.
The bed, meanwhile, is brass and deliberately modern. It gives the room a little backbone. Otherwise, too many antiques in one place can start to feel like a museum had a yard sale.
Nobody needs that before coffee.
The view
The best thing in Room 32 is the thing we didn’t build.
The dormer window looks down onto the back garden and the vine-covered ruins of the old property boundary.
In spring and summer, the vines take over in the best possible way. In fall and winter, the garden goes quiet, and the room turns moodier under lamplight.
Either way, it’s one of the most specific views in the house.
Not “garden view” in the generic hotel sense.
Actual garden. Actual old stone. Actual vines.
Come with a book.

Good to know
Room 32 is on the third floor, and there is no elevator.
The stairs are real.
So is the quiet up here.
This room works best for guests who like old houses, sloped ceilings, garden views, and a little separation from the rest of the world.
It may not be the right fit if you prefer:
- Elevator access
- A first-floor room
- A large multi-room suite
- A modern chain-hotel layout
No hard feelings. Every room has its people.
Room 32’s people usually arrive with a book.

- A desk with a little history

- A few days where the world can pipe down a bit
